Adrian Newey and Christian Horner, bonded by a lengthy camaraderie, could face significant repercussions if the Red Bull team principal departs.

Their alliance spans almost two decades within Red Bull, orchestrating monumental triumphs that have inscribed their team’s legacy in the annals of history.

Newey has previously hinted at a temptation to align himself with Ferrari, a sentiment potentially rekindled as Lewis Hamilton forges ties with the Scuderia for 2025, hinting at a prospective dream partnership.

Amid Red Bull’s ongoing investigation into allegations of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ against Horner, slated for resolution in a forthcoming hearing, journalist Joe Saward posits that Newey might depart alongside him.

Saward floated the notion on social media platform X, speculating about an unsubstantiated clause in Newey and Horner’s contracts, positing that if one exits, the other follows suit.

“It has long been believed that Christian Horner and Adrian Newey have contracts that protect one another,” he penned.

“If one leaves, the other can as well. This has never been confirmed, but it makes for an interesting dynamic if something were to happen to Horner…”

Horner’s tenure extends until at least 2026, whereas Newey’s pact, penned early last season, remains a long-term commitment devoid of specified duration.

Red Bull is poised to unveil their 2024 car on February 15 from their Milton Keynes factory, just six days preceding the commencement of pre-season testing in Bahrain.

The team anticipates resuming their dominance exhibited at the conclusion of 2023, with contenders eagerly trailing behind, vying for an opportunity to challenge for victory.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has described the company’s first ever hypercar as “Newey unleashed”, with it set to be unveiled to the world in the latter stages of 2024.

Alongside obliterating the competition in Formula 1, Red Bull and chief technical officer Adrian Newey have been working on a monster of a car which is set to produce 1250 hp from a V8 engine.

The car is being created for specifically for track days at actual race circuits, although Horner has hinted that there is a way of making the hypercar road legal, if they make changes to its closed-roof.

Whilst it’s set to be launched at the end of this year, it won’t be delivered to those wealthy enough to have purchased it until 2025.

Red Bull Advanced Technologies will build 50 of them, with the car being named the RB17.

The Milton Keynes-based squad never used the RB17 name in F1 as they skipped it due to changes to the regulations.

Whilst 50 units are going to be built, the plan is for only 15 to be produced per year – all have already been bought.

Horner revealed that Newey has wanted to build a hypercar with Red Bull since 2014, something he was sort of able to do during their partnership with Aston Martin, with the Valkyrie having been born.

The Red Bull boss has stressed that the company building a hypercar isn’t a distraction from F1 but is instead the “perfect project” to utilise their skills.

READ: Mohammed Ben Sulayem: ‘I know who attacks me’

“Adrian wanted to do a car [for us] back in 2014, and at that point in time, we found a route through that by doing all the design work for the Valkyrie in partnership with Aston Martin,” Horner told Autocar.

“Valkyrie is a stunning vehicle and I’m sure it will be a great success, but you’re always learning, whether in Formula 1 or on the advanced technologies side.

“[RBAT] has now existed for close to eight years and there’s an awful lot of knowledge that has been built up in that time. With the budget cap era [in F1], if you want to retain resources there have to be projects that can justify their existence. This is a perfect project utilising the skill sets that we have, so it will complement our Formula 1 activities rather than distract from them.”

Ex-Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has told Max Verstappen to “take good care” of Red Bull’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey, if he wants to keep winning.

Verstappen heads into this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix looking to end his sensational 2023 campaign with yet another victory, which would take him to a record-breaking 19 for the season.

Nobody has come close to the three-time World Champion this year, with him having won 33 races since the start of 2022 alone.

His dominance since the start of the new aerodynamic regulations last season has seen his total career wins skyrocket, to the extent that he’s now won 53 F1 races following his victory last weekend in Las Vegas.

After winning in Sin City, Verstappen is now joint-third for most wins in F1 with four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel, meaning he could make the spot his own with another win at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Schumacher doesn’t think a win in Abu Dhabi is necessarily a guarantee though, as he believes Red Bull are actually “under a bit of pressure”.

“Red Bull is under a bit of pressure. The other teams are getting closer. That makes the whole thing exciting. We only have one race left to go: Abu Dhabi, I look forward to that,” Schumacher wrote in his Sky Sport column.

Regardless of who wins this weekend, 2023 has been all about Verstappen and Red Bull.

The RB19 has just been unstoppable and that’s all thanks to the remarkable work done by Newey when he designed the car.

Newey remaining with Red Bull is hugely significant to them, something which was recently confirmed as he’s signed a new contract.

Schumacher thinks Verstappen could challenge Lewis Hamilton’s 103 career wins if he continues to have such a strong car, something the ex-F1 driver notes depends heavily on Newey’s presence.

As a result, Schumacher has advised Verstappen to look after Newey, as this is the key to extend his remarkable run of victories.

“As for age and talent, absolutely,” Schumacher added.

“But that depends on two things. Question one is: how long does he want to race?

“The other question is: does he always have such a good car? I think next year. Max [Verstappen] has to take good care of Adrian Newey. As long as he does, they can continue this [winning].”

Red Bull’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey has revealed that he’ll remain with the Austrians for as long as he’s making a positive contribution to the team, something he certainly still is.

Newey is arguably the greatest F1 car designer of all-time, with a lot of Red Bull’s current dominance being thanks to him.

The Milton Keynes-based team’s 2023 challenger – the RB19 – is perhaps the greatest of the lot, something which is backed by the records its broken mostly thanks to three-time World Champion Max Verstappen.

Newey has mastered the current aerodynamic regulations, which has given Red Bull the huge advantage they currently boast.

With two races still remaining this year, Red Bull have already won 19 times, 17 of which have come courtesy of Verstappen.

Only Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz has been able to defeat the Austrians, who claimed a second consecutive Constructors’ Championship back at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Red Bull are the favourites to win the final two rounds, which would just further cement the RB19’s place in F1 history.

As long as Newey remains with Red Bull, it’d be safe to assume that their dominance will continue.

Newey certainly has no plans on retiring or leaving Red Bull just yet, with that day only to come when he feels like he’s no longer a key cog in the Austrian machine.

“I think when I was in my early 50s, I thought that by 60 I would go lie on a beach,” Newey told The Telegraph. “But the reality is I’d get bored. I know I would. I remember Mario Andretti, for whom I race-engineered when he was 47 and still so competitive.

“Later on he started having some accidents and it was clear his competitiveness was decreasing. I bumped into him a few years later and he said ‘Look I know I’m not as sharp as I used to be. But as long as people are silly enough to give me a drive, I’ll keep driving until I stop enjoying it.’ I think that’s a good way of looking at things.

“If I feel in myself and or if other people say to me ‘Look, your contribution isn’t useful anymore’ then I’ve got to take that on board because the last thing I want to do is to let the team down.

“But as long as I feel I’m able to contribute… hopefully I’m still contributing now.”

Former Formula 1 team boss Eddie Jordan has disclosed that Adrian Newey, the acclaimed technical wizard behind Red Bull’s success, is firmly convinced that the evolution of the RB19 into the 2024 season will create an insurmountable lead, making it extremely challenging for rivals to catch up.

Red Bull has been the undisputed dominator of the current Formula 1 campaign, securing a staggering 16 out of 17 wins.

Their remarkable run of victories was only disrupted in Singapore, with Max Verstappen triumphing 14 times on his path to a third World Championship title.

The team further solidified their dominance by clinching the Constructors’ title in Japan, leaving their closest competitors, including Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and McLaren, struggling to mount consistent challenges over the course of the season.

As reigning champions, Red Bull is set to receive a lower allocation for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel testing compared to other teams.

However, Eddie Jordan has offered insight into the mindset at Red Bull as they develop the RB20 at their headquarters in Milton Keynes.

He shared his recent conversation with Adrian Newey, highlighting the technical maestro’s optimism.

“I was at a function the other night with Adrian Newey, we are cyclists who cycle a lot together in Cape Town,” explained Jordan in an interview with Talksport.

“Adrian feels that the evolution of what they’ve got at the moment is going to be so difficult for anyone to catch up with.”

Adrian Newey, the chief technical officer at Red Bull Racing, has candidly revealed that not having the opportunity to work with Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton is one of his career “regrets.”

Newey, who joined Red Bull in 2006 and played a pivotal role in the team’s championship success, acknowledged that he holds a tinge of remorse for never collaborating with Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, or the iconic Scuderia Ferrari.

During a recent interview on the ‘Beyond the Grid’ podcast, Newey, known for his unparalleled engineering prowess, opened up about his career and shared insights into his aspirations and experiences in Formula 1.

Newey’s illustrious career in Formula 1 includes successful stints with Williams and McLaren, culminating in championship victories.

However, he expressed a sense of longing for the missed opportunity to work with Hamilton and Alonso.

“My discussions in 2014 with Ferrari were purely out of frustration,” Newey disclosed.

“I really didn’t want to leave but we were in this position where Renault hadn’t produced a competitive turbo hybrid engine.

“That happens in the first year, OK, new rules.

“We all make mistakes.”

Newey explained that his discussions with Ferrari in 2014 were an attempt to address the challenges faced at Red Bull due to engine issues.

He recalled a meeting with Carlos Ghosn, the former CEO of Renault, to seek increased financial support for the team. However, Ghosn’s response was disheartening.

“Ghosn’s reply was ‘Well, I have no interest in Formula 1.

“I’m only in it because my marketing people say I should be.’

“That was such a depressing place to be,” Newey remarked.

When questioned about his feelings of regret regarding the opportunity to work for Ferrari, Newey admitted, “Emotionally, I guess, to a point.

“Yes. But just as, for instance, working with Fernando and Lewis would have been fabulous.

“But it never happened.

“ It’s just circumstance sometimes, that’s the way it is.”

Despite the missed opportunities, Newey acknowledged that circumstances in Formula 1 can dictate the course of one’s career.

Hamilton, now in his late thirties, and Alonso, in his forties, have both committed to long-term contracts with their respective teams, Mercedes and Aston Martin, making the prospect of working together in the future highly unlikely.

Newey himself signed renewed terms with Red Bull earlier this year, further solidifying his enduring partnership with the team.

Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, described the extension as “inevitable” after their 18-year collaboration.

Max Verstappen has quashed suggestions that he’s “one of the all-time greats”, with the Red Bull driver admitting that he’s simply in Formula 1 to “do the best I can”.

The reigning World Champion was recently hailed as one of the best by Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey, who’s certainly seen a few F1 legends in his time in the paddock.

Verstappen is certainly putting himself up there with the greatest drivers of all-time, given that he’s on the brink of claiming a third consecutive Drivers’ Championship.

If that wasn’t enough, the Dutchman broke Sebastian Vettel’s record for most consecutive wins last weekend at the Italian Grand Prix, where won for the 10th race in a row.

His 10th consecutive win last Sunday also marked his 12th overall for the season, putting him just three race wins away from matching his record for most victories in a season.

With eight races still remaining, most expect the 25-year-old to eclipse his 2022 record.

Newey is a massive fan of Verstappen’s and insists that he’s “totally in tune” with the car, something he’s become better at since winning his first title in 2021.

“Max is clearly one of the all-time greats and he’s at the top of his game,” Newey told Autosport.

“Since he won the championship in ’21 I think that took a took a lot of pressure off himself, and his driving has got a lot better for that.

“He’s totally in tune. The thing about Max, like all the real greats, is that you have the impression he almost drives the car on automatic, which leaves plenty of processing power to think about everything.”

To receive that sort of praise from Newey highlights how special the Dutch driver is, who is winning for fun currently.

Most of his victories have come by over 20 seconds this year, with him being virtually unstoppable.

Despite this, he seemingly isn’t bothered by any accolades, as he’s focused purely on just doing his utmost.

“Everyone, of course, has their own opinion about these kinds of things,” Verstappen said.

“But you know, for me, I’m not in F1 to try and prove that I belong between other people’s names who are the greats in the sport.

“I’m just here to try and do the best I can, and try to win as much as I can when I have the opportunity.

Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey has hailed reigning World Champion Max Verstappen as “one of the all-time greats”, with the Dutchman being just one win away from a huge record.

Verstappen returned from the summer break last weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix and looked like he’d never been away, as the 25-year-old stormed to yet another victory.

The two-time World Champion claimed his 11th victory of the season at his home race, which was also his ninth consecutive victory.

He therefore matched Sebastian Vettel’s record from 2013, with Verstappen now having a chance to eclipse the four-time World Champion’s record.

Should the Dutchman claim victory at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend, then he’ll hold the record for most consecutive wins.

What goes in Verstappen’s favour is that he won at Monza 12 months ago; however, that could also go against him.

There is somewhat of a Monza ‘curse’, with the winner of the race in 2019, 2020 and 2021 having then retired the following season.

Given that the Red Bull driver has finished no lower than second all season, the expectation is that Verstappen will break the curse.

Should he win on Sunday, then the likes of Lewis Hamilton believe that he could win every remaining race, which would extend Verstappen’s winning streak to 18 races.

Even if he doesn’t do this, the championship leader is all but set to claim a third consecutive Drivers’ Championship, which would see him join the likes of Niki Lauda and Ayrton Senna.

Due to his huge 138-point advantage over Sergio Perez, Verstappen could seal the title in September, at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Verstappen’s 2023 campaign will go down in history as one of the most dominant, with Newey being convinced that the Dutchman has traits similar to “all the real greats”.

Given how dominant Verstappen and Red Bull are, the Austrians do have the luxury of being able to now focus on their 2024 car, which they’ll use to defend both titles.

However, this could work against Red Bull, who are on track to win every race in 2023.

Should other teams continue to introduce upgrades this season, then it could see them catch Red Bull, if the Austrians don’t introduce another big package.

Newey admits that this could “possibly” happen, although the British engineer believes most teams are following Red Bull and have switched their attention to next year.

“I would imagine that most teams now are probably well into next year’s,” Newey told Motorsport.com.

“So how much development other teams have got coming in between now and the end of the year? I don’t know. For us obviously we’re now tending to switch our focus to next year.”

Even if the likes of Aston Martin and McLaren continue to introduce developments, they’ve still got to try and defeat Verstappen, something which only Sergio Perez has achieved twice all season.

Verstappen is simply in a league of his own currently, with him having the chance of sealing a third consecutive title at the Japanese Grand Prix in September.

Newey believes the Dutchman is very much “one of the all-time greats”, putting him into the same bracket as the likes of Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Ayrton Senna.

Both Brown and Newey will be heading to Zandvoort shortly for this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, which will bring the summer break to a close.

Red Bull’s biggest threat in the last few races has actually been McLaren, meaning that Brown and Newey were likely keeping their cards close to their chest.

McLaren have made huge progress since the Austrian Grand Prix, where the Woking-based team introduced a sizeable upgrades package.

They’ve gone from being sixth or seventh in the pecking order to being second or third in the last few rounds, marking a stark improvement.

Norris has actually claimed P2 in two of the last three races, whilst he’s finished the last four in the top five.

Rookie Oscar Piastri has also done well recently and has claimed two top five finishes in the last three races.

He even nearly won the Belgian GP sprint, but ended up in second after being overtaken by Max Verstappen.

Some see McLaren as the team most likely to defeat Red Bull, something which nobody has achieved yet this season.

That’s mostly due to Verstappen’s dominance, with the reigning World Champion having won 10 races already in 2023.
