Challenging Start for Piastri Amid McLaren’s Winning Return

The 2025 Formula 1 season got off to a thrilling start, particularly for McLaren, as Lando Norris clinched a much-celebrated victory in the opening race. The win marked a continuation of the team’s resurgence after claiming their first constructors’ championship since 1998 last season.

Piastri, however, faced challenges of his own. The Australian driver was on a promising run, and together with Norris, had built a commanding 16-second lead over Max Verstappen in third. But changing weather conditions and the deployment of safety cars turned the race on its head. Piastri eventually slid off in the wet and could only salvage a ninth-place finish.

FIA Summons Three Cars Ahead of Shanghai Sprint Weekend

As the F1 circus moves to Shanghai for round two of the season, the FIA has announced that Piastri’s McLaren will be one of three cars showcased as part of a standard procedural display. Also included are Jack Doohan’s Alpine and Alex Albon’s Williams.

According to an FIA document, the selection is part of a regular process that occurs during each race weekend under Article 19 of the F1 Sporting Regulations. The selected teams must position one of their cars in the designated pit stop position for a visual presentation and technical examination.

Standard Procedure, but Valuable Insights for FIA and Fans

Although the procedure is routine, it offers both technical insight and fan engagement. The FIA uses the displays to ensure compliance with regulations and to familiarize scrutineers and stakeholders with the latest developments in car design. Fans, meanwhile, enjoy an up-close look at some of the most advanced machinery in motorsport.

Once the inspection is complete, Piastri will join the rest of the grid for Friday’s limited practice session, as this weekend features the sprint format. Drivers will have just one hour in FP1 to get their setups dialed in before competitive sessions begin.
